Whether you have a dog or a cat, all pets can use exercise. Beyond stimulating their mind and body, daily activity can help strengthen your bond with them. Plus, it can get you up and moving, too!
If you’re needing some inspiration, Yummers is here to help with some easy ways you can get physical with your dog or cat.
#1 Adventure Walks
You can never go wrong with a walk! Whether you go to a park, walk a trail, or stroll around your neighborhood, both dogs and cats can enjoy the fresh air and bonding time with you.
#2 Doggy Yoga
Dogs can do yoga, too! You may be able to find a class near you or you can simply pull up a video online and have your pup join you. You don’t need to be an expert yogi to have fun with your dog. They will enjoy stretching, and you both will feel amazing afterward!
#3 Water Sports
From kayaking to paddle boarding, pets can enjoy a variety of water activities by your side. Make sure they have a life vest so they stay safe, and never force them to do something if they’re overly anxious or nervous. You may want to test them in a safe body of water first to make sure they can swim if needed.
#4 Frisbee and Fetch
Both classics, frisbee and fetch are easy ways you can get your pup moving at home and on the go. You can go to the dog park or play a game outside in your backyard. For extra fun, invite some doggy friends to join you!
#5 Hide-and-Seek
Dogs and cats can both enjoy a game of hide-and-seek. You can use their favorite treats and toys to make it extra fun and entertaining. If you live in a smaller place, you can create obstacles using boxes and other household items for your pet to hide behind.
#6 Exercise Wheel
Ever seen an exercise wheel for cats? They can be a great way to get your cat moving throughout the day. However, not all cats are going to feel comfortable using one, so consider trying one out first before you buy.
#7 Cat Tree
Cat trees are a great way to get your feline active. You can attach different toys to keep their mind stimulated. If you have multiple cat trees, you can group them together to create an obstacle course for them.
#8 Laser Pointer
Most cats can’t resist a laser pointer! You can sit on the couch and watch them go wild. If your cat can go outside, you can put them on a harness and bring the laser pointer with you to add extra entertainment to their walk.
#9 Tug-of-War
Tug-of-war is another easy game you can play with your pup. You can use rope, a toy, and anything that has two sides to it and is sturdy. To make it even more fun, you can invite a doggy friend over to join so your pup can work on their socialization skills.
#10 Agility Courses
Depending on where you live, you may have agility courses you can go to with your dog. You could even hire a trainer to help you navigate the courses so your pup is best in show. Make sure to bring training treats to help encourage them to keep moving.
